Reel Snippet – Ted 2

ted2

Ted 2 isn’t going to be for everyone with its overly raunchy and politically incorrect humor, but at the very least it tickled me. Not every joke hits the mark (some of them feel quite mean-spirited and unpleasant), but I still kept with it because the characters kept me invested. A fair amount of notes were cribbed directly from the previous Ted movie, including the very unnecessary villain who admittedly gets worked into the plot better in this installment. The heartfelt moments here worked fairly well, which is a big accomplishment considering that the main character is a CGI teddy bear, but it can get a little too schmaltzy at times and there’s a weird tone shift near the end that may be a bit too jarring. Then again, I’ve found that Seth McFarland does comedy really well, but trips when he has to go for dramatic or heroic moments. Basically, if you liked the first Ted, you’ll probably like this one. If you don’t, this won’t be changing your mind. It may not be highbrow, but it scratched an itch of that rapid-fire conversational humor that I love so much.
