Comic Con Photos Delayed

I know a lot of you are thinking the same thing: weren’t you planning on releasing the Comic Con photos today? Well, I was… but then life happened in the worst way possible. Within the last three days, the website glitched, I was in the ER for most of one day (it wasn’t a huge deal, just something to make sure there wasn’t something horribly wrong with me), and my car broke down and needed to be taken to two different locations. Suffice to say, this hasn’t been the best week for me or the website and I’m going to have to delay them by a week. Sorry for the inconvenience and look forward to more Scribbles on Friday.

Update and Scribbles of a Ronin

Wow, who would have thought that uploading almost 200 pictures from Comic Con would be time consuming? Rest assured, the photos will be up by Wednesday by the latest. In the meantime, why not look at a new project of mine? For a while, to keep my writing stone sharp, I’ve been doing small writing exercises based on a simple prompt. After a few years of doing that, I’ve gotten some really positive feedback on what I’ve written, so I started posting them on a blogspot called Scribbles of a Ronin, based on my old online pseudonym. Well, I’ve decided to fold that into my updates for the website. Every Friday, I’ll post three more pieces into the Scribbles and then share them with you. Without further ado, here are this week’s entries.

All the wrong things…

Be careful out there…

Comic Con Aftermath

Yeah, I know I said I’d post this yesterday, but travel and sickness were rougher than I thought.

San Diego Comic Con ’15 may be over and done with, but we at Fish and Cherries are celebrating it until the end of the month. Find out how in the full post.

Terminator and Comic Con Announcement

Hello, everyone! I want to take a bit of your time for some quick announcements. I’ll start with the work based one first because, after all, it’s business before pleasure.

I’m sure a lot of you were surprised that I didn’t do a Reel Snippet on Terminator: Genisys this past Monday. Believe me, I would love to throw my opinions into ring on this movie, especially concerning the buzz I keep hearing about it. But you see, I actually haven’t seen any of the Terminator movies and after a few talks with my beloved staff, I’ve decided that I want to do this right. So rather than spending my money on what many are saying is a dog, I’m going to bide my time until its release on DVD by reviewing all the previous Terminator movies. Let’s call it the Road to Genisys. So sporadically until its release on video, I’ll be coming out with Terminator reviews the first week of every month until the latest one’s release on DVD. They may be films you’ve seen, but maybe my thoughts on them will provide some entertainment.

Second, I will be attending San Diego Comic Con for all four days and preview night. I’ll be dressed up as Ash from Pokèmon for Thursday and Saturday, but I’ll always be carrying a Fish and Cherries tote bag filled with promotional material. If you’re a fan and see me, come say hi. If I’m not rushing to a panel, I’ll be glad to hear from you and listen to what you like and where you think I could improve, or just your own thought in general. Hope to see you there!

Schedule Update

Routine. A lot of people see it as a restriction, but it’s actually your best friend. Routine gives you deadlines, meaning that you don’t have an excuse to put off any endeavors and stuff gets done. That should be the ultimate goal of a creator next to artistic integrity: completed projects. But there’s another benefit, especially when you’re in my line of work. Routine means that things come out on a schedule, which means that people will come by a website on a regular basis to see new posts. That’s what I’m going for and that’s why we have our new schedule.

Reel Snippets – Every Monday

It’s fitting that my most common post comes out weekly now. Since Friday is when new movies come out and my editing process takes about a day, that gives me a nice weekend turnaround to get a Snippet (or a few) ready for Monday. That way, you guys can know my opinion on the movie after the first weekend. Some people would argue that things would be better if I put these out every Friday. Well, truth be told, I don’t have the resources to get so much out on Friday (since I plan on multiple reviews coming out on occasion) or access to early screenings. But I’m trying to make up for it by getting them out as early in the workweek as possible.

Ronin Reads – The Last Thursday of Every Month

If I could get most than one of these out in a month, I would. But I put a lot more analysis in the Ronin Reads and reading an entire novel or comic volume is pretty time consuming. It feels like a nice closer for the month to me.

Musings – Unknown

Musings are tricky for me to schedule because they aren’t like my other works. I never know what’s going to inspire me to write one of these and I don’t want to wind up writing one that says absolutely nothing, like I’ve seen a lot of other online personalities do. I’ll leave these open to change for now, but check back for an update after I post the latest one next week.

Podcasts – Sunday… maybe

Okay, I’ll admit it, we’re really slow in editing the podcasts and have two in the backlog that we recorded before the E3 one. We’d love to get into a system where we record it, edit it in one day, and post it, but we’re not there yet. Also, the podcasts haven’t been catching as much fire as I would have hoped, but persistence might be the key.

That’s all for the schedule. In the future, there will of course be updates as things change, but for the moment we’ll see how the works Thanks for bearing with me and I’ll see you next time.

Triple Feature Thursday

Whoa, what’s this? Three updates at once?! Yep, in order to get things balanced for my new schedule, I’m coming out with three different things on the same day. Let’s start out with two Reel Snippets, one classic and one new release.

Love Actually
Inside Out

Now let’s follow that up with my newest Ronin Reads on an obscure comic. One day, I’ll do an actual prose story…

Letter 44

The schedule will be posted this Friday. But in case you crave more content between then and now… how about our E3 podcast? Guess this isn’t a triple feature anymore! Accolades all around!

Big announcement

Ladies and gentlemen…

Who has two thumbs and got featured on an interview segment for another blog?

THIS GUY!!

http://www.musehack.com/blog/2014/07/colin-eldred-cohen-author.html

A man named Steven Savage was gracious enough to interview me because he liked what I did and now it’s featured on one of his websites. I am very grateful for the opportunity to touch base with him and hope to work with him again in the future. Check it out and see my thoughts and journeys in writing.

This man deserves an award. And a Muslim blessing

Ladies and gentlemen, as many of you know, I champion for equality and fair depiction of people other than straight white males in comics. Well, we’ve finally reached a jaw dropper. Lewis Lovhaug, also known as Linkara or that guy who reviews comic books, has reached his 300th episode and as such, did a review of Frank Miller’s Holy Terror. And boy, is it a doozy.

This comic… I almost don’t want to keep thinking about it. It’s bad. Just really bad. It is a racist diatribe against Arabs and Muslims, portraying most, if not all of them as savages and terrorists. Miller’s paranoid fantasies are also brought forth in all their ugly glory as it depicts Al Qaeda as a single group as part of a nebulous organization of terror that wormed its way into our government like S.P.E.C.T.E.R. of James Bond fame. The book promotes torture, glorifies the demonization of a culture of billions, and seems proud of itself for doing it. If I discover that Frank Miller has any legitimate fans after this garbage, I may drink so much that I actually go missing for a few days.

Please, watch this three-part episode. You owe it to yourselves as thinking people to know that this kind of sentiment is very real and worse, that it’s still getting published. Mr. Lovhaug needs an award for this episode. To be able to effectively rip apart this much printed bile and come out unscathed is truly a godly feat.

The full endeavor can be found here. Be warned, it’s over an hour and a half, but it is well worth it

Re: Awestruck

Dr. Wolf is back! Apparently, YouTube realized their error and reinstated his channel. Special thanks to everyone who sent messages to YouTube and kept it civil, and a special thank you to everyone who supported him and raised awareness of him in this dark time. Welcome back, Dr. Wolf of Wall Street.

Awestruck

I’m not even sure how to react to this. Dr. Wolf, a member of the brony analysis community, got his channel taken down, despite his work apparently falling under Fair Use. Dr. Wolf was honestly one of the nicest guys to listen to and I’m not sure I really know what to say on the matter. I’ll have more thoughts later, to be sure.
